Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one CS 02 position located at Natural Resources Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the CS-02 group and level with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed
• NOTE:
- Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
- It is a recognized educational institution (e.g., community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
- At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager

Degree equivalency

Recent * experience in administration, support and maintenance of software and hardware for one or more technology platforms
Recent * experience configuring and supporting operating systems such as UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows Server in a networked environment
Experience with programming and/or scripting languages such as C++, C#, python and Bash

*Recent is defined as experience that has been acquired within the last three (3) years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience writing code to manipulate scientific data
Experience manipulating binary files

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of networking such as TCP/IP and Ethernet
Knowledge of management and operation of RAID systems
Knowledge of network file sharing between Windows and Linux systems
Knowledge of standard UNIX/Linux backup utilities and procedures
Knowledge of Unix/Linux command line environment

Ability to analyze technical issues, make recommendations, and resolve problems in networked Unix/Linux and Windows environments
Ability to work as a team member providing IT support to research teams
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
Ability to communicate effectively orally

Post-secondary degree in geophysics, physics, geology, earth science or engineering

Degree equivalency

Knowledge of seismic data acquisition and processing
