Duties

The Canadian Coast Guard (an agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada) is looking for new talent to fill various engineer positions across Canada. Do not miss your chance to make a real difference in the lives of Canadians.

The Civil Engineer position(s) in the Maritime Civil Infrastructure group is a national role with responsibilities including defining and establishing technical requirements and specifications for civil engineering related infrastructure and projects for the acquisition of engineering assets or services, establishment and/or ongoing support of life cycle maintenance management regimes in support of Canadian Coast Guard assets, and supporting project management and regional teams. Other duties include initiating and completing studies involving structural, hydraulics and/or geomatics engineering, as well as establishing statements of work for engineering or consulting services.

As a member of the Environmental Response (ER) group, you will support the acquisition of ER Equipment and Incident Management Infrastructure thereby providing significant enhancement to Canadian Coast Guard’s ability to respond to oil spills. You will act as the Technical Authority in asset acquisition and in-service phases of these assets. Many of your ongoing responsibilities will include those described for the MCI Engineering position however your focus will be on supporting the wide range of ER assets.

The Project Manager position(s) in the Maritime and Civil Infrastructure group is a national role with responsibilities to define, promote, initiate, implement, and close infrastructure construction, equipment procurement, and/or disposal projects and programs. The project role is delivered in collaboration with national engineering teams, and regional technical and project delivery teams, exercising sound project management principles and processes including but not limited to work planning and management, risk management, financial management, communications and engagement.

The intent of the process is to establish a list of qualified candidates who have met all the essential qualifications listed below. Hiring Managers will select candidates from this list to staff engineering positions with various tenures, security profiles and language requirements within the Canadian Coast Guard.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in either Naval Architecture or an Engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position, for example mechanical, chemical, environmental, civil (structural, hydraulics, geomatics), electrical, computer engineering.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience* providing a range of engineering services related to the design, construction and/or maintenance of equipment and systems.
• Experience* working in a project team setting.

* Experience must have been acquired in the last 2 years.

CERTIFICATION:
• Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in financial and human resource management.

• Experience relating to the design, fabrication or maintenance of Environmental Response physical assets.
• Experience relating to the design, construction or maintenance of vessel systems and equipment.
• Experience relating to the design, construction or maintenance of civil or hydraulic engineering infrastructure.
• Experience in mechanical or electrical engineering of system integration.
• Experience in project management
• Experience working in/or with government procurement.
• Experience applying Canadian and/or International rules and regulations pertaining to the design, construction and/or operation of infrastructure, equipment and/or systems.

PSEE - Test of Judgement UIT

Applicants must complete the Public Service Entrance Exam: Test of Judgement Unsupervised Internet Test as part of the screening for this selection process. This test assesses the judgement required for solving problems in work-related situations. You will have 75 minutes to complete the test. You must complete the test before you submit your application for this position.
