Duties

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is a special operating agency within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. As an integral part of the Canadian Coast Guard Agency, Integrated Technical Services (ITS) employees are trades people, technicians, technologists, engineers, managers and support staff in the Regions and Headquarters of CCG, working collectively to deliver Technology Integration Solutions in order to ensure that the CCG’s complex and varied physical assets - managed at optimal life-cycle costs, are capable, reliable and available to deliver CCG Programs to Canadians.

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Shore-based Asset Readiness Program ensures that the CCG’s non-fleet assets are available and reliable to support delivery of CCG Programs. These non-fleet assets include marine navigational aids, buildings, helipads, communication towers, power generation systems, radar systems, and Differential Global Positioning Systems.

As an engineering technologist, you will play an integral role in supporting the reliability of these assets by conducting condition assessments and reporting, as well as assisting in the planning, design, and monitoring of construction projects.
This position has a good balance of field and office duties which include:

• Condition assessments and tracking of in-service assets;
• Construction planning and monitoring;
• Surveying;
• Contract administration;
• First Nation engagement;
• Drawing and specification preparation;
• Engineering design;
• Report preparation; and
• Conducting quality control activities.

Work environment

Our engineering office is multidisciplinary, with professionals on staff in the fields of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering. We work hard and take pride in the services we deliver.

Based out of Victoria, we manage assets over the entire Canadian Pacific coast as well as at in-land waterways such as the McKenzie river and Lake Winnipeg. Many of our assets are located in remote areas and are only accessible by boat or helicopter.

Our engineering technologists will travel to many remote locations in western Canada and will be faced with many exciting and diverse challenges. You may learn how to exit helicopters while they are hovering over ground, climb communications towers with fall protection equipment, and travel in high speed boats or hovercrafts.

Training and development, both professionally and personally is highly encouraged.

We invite you to join an organization that is committed to ensuring an inclusive workplace and respect for all!
