We are looking for a Communications Officer who would be responsible for a variety of communications services, including:
• media relations;
• social media;
• writing;
• creating and implementing communications and outreach strategies; and
• other communications activities as required.

Our Communications team is small but mighty, so there is great potential to expand or gain experience in a variety of areas. The ideal candidate would be interested in developing skills in a broad range of communications activities.

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff the following position, or similar positions, on a permanent or temporary basis at Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada in Whitehorse, Yukon:
- Senior Communication Officer – Immediate, permanent need

EDUCATION:
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note:
Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
- Experience providing strategic communications advice to various stakeholders.
- Experience developing, writing and implementing communications plans, for a wide range of product areas, e.g. media lines, social media posts, speaking notes/speeches, news releases, presentations, etc., in a work setting.
- Experience planning logistics for media events, public events and/or ministerial visits.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the Government of Canada Policy on Communications and Federal Identity.
- Knowledge of the mandate and priorities of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada.

- Ability to provide strategic advice and recommendations on communications issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight timelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in media relations.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience in working on Indigenous or northern issues.
- Experience in the use of graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.
- Experience working on stakeholder engagement, including public consultations.
