Duties

The successful candidate is expected to analyze ground-based and satellite datasets of atmospheric composition, apply statistical methods to observational data, use visualization tools and prepare scientific data products, and report in writing and orally on results from analyses.

Work environment

Environment and Climate Change Canada is a science-based department, and we provide the science and technology information needed so that Canadians can make informed decisions about the environment. In addition, Environment and Climate Change Canada's science and technology work helps us to protect and conserve our air, water, wildlife and spaces.
The selected student will conduct work mainly at the Environment and Climate Change Canada Downsview facility in the ground-based remote sensing operations laboratories and the office under the guidance and supervision of a scientific research team.

EDUCATION
Must be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in atmospheric science or other related discipline in a recognized Canadian university with a fulltime student status.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience* in statistical analysis of large datasets.

Experience* in performing scientific literature reviews.

Experience* programming with scientific tools such as MATLAB, SAS or Python.

*This experience can be acquired via an academic environment, work experience outside of academia, through volunteer activities or a combination of any of the above.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATONS

Experience working with ground-based remote sensing instruments such as MAX-DOAS instrument and Pandora spectrometer.

Experience working with satellite datasets of atmospheric composition from instruments such as OMI, GOME-2 or TROPOMI.

Experience working with Linux/Unix and Windows.
