The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers. As a civilian employee, you will be an important part of the Defence Team.
CFB Suffield is considered to be a semi-isolated base. We are located approximately 50 kms north west of the City of Medicine Hat in the southeast corner of Alberta. Most of the civilian personnel who work at the base live either in Medicine Hat or in the small town of Redcliff just to the west of the Medicine Hat city limits. This is an important point to note as there is no accommodation on the base and there is no public transportation to the base. Personnel either drive their own vehicle or car pool with others. Commuting assistance is provided for employees who live in Medicine Hat or Redcliff. For other information on the City of Medicine Hat, I suggest you look at their website at www.medicinehat.ca. Canadian Forces Base/Area Support Unit (CFB/ASU) Wainwright is one of the busiest Army bases in Canada. It is home to the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre and the 3rd Canadian Division Training Centre, and it is the preferred training ground for the Army’s field force units based in Edmonton. The base is located in Alberta, 210 kilometres east of Edmonton and 110 kilometres southwest of Lloydminster. The Town of Wainwright sits immediately to the north of the base. Members of the base reside in several of the surrounding communities, but there is also a distinct residential community for the families of the serving military members located on the base proper. For information on ASU Wainwright, please visit http://www.army-armee.forces.gc.ca/en/cfb-wainwright/index.page
