AAFC’s Regional Occupational Health and Safety Coordinators deliver operational health and safety services locally in establishments across Canada and contribute to the development and implementation of hazard prevention program activities at the national level.
• As members of OHS Working Groups, contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of the department’s OHS Program;
• Collaborate with Workplace OHS Committees (WOHSC) and the National OHS Policy Committee;
• Provide advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, and WOHSC in their region on their roles and responsibilities in ensuring compliance with the Canada Labour Code, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, as well as relevant Treasury Board and AAFC OHS policies and directives;
• Serve as regional OHS trainers;
• Perform regular site inspections to identify and address hazards;
• Assess and report on workplace accidents, and recommend measures to prevent reoccurrence;
• Work with the Labour Program (Employment and Social Development Canada) in the performance of OHS audits, related activities and coordinate the implementation of recommendations.

Immediate need:
Staff 5 permanent vacancies in the following locations:
• 1 in the Atlantic Region (Fredericton, NB, Kentville, NS or Charlottetown, PE).
• 1 in the National Capital Region.
• 2 in Saskatchewan (Regina, Saskatoon or Swift Current).
• 1 in British Columbia or Alberta (Summerland, BC, Agassiz, BC, or Lethbridge, AB).
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to fill similar permanent and temporary positions in various AAFC locations across Canada.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Experience providing advice and guidance to management on a range of workplace health and safety issues.
Experience implementing occupational health and safety procedures and guidelines.
Experience delivering presentations or training.
Experience developing health and safety policies, guidelines or standards.
Post-secondary certificate program in Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, or management reviews in the context of an occupational health and safety program.
