This process is to staff an indeterminate position in the Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector. A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff future and similar positions within DFO locations across Canada. Results of this recruitment process may also be used for similar positions in other federal government departments and agencies.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in science related to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in leading operational science-based programs in a regional or national context
Experience in leading strategic planning, policy implementation and change for large and diverse science-based programs
Significant* experience in developing collaborative partnerships with various external stakeholders under challenging circumstances
Significant* experience in providing strategic scientific advice and recommendations to senior officials
Significant* experience in managing human, material and financial resources**
NOTES:
*Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the executive level experience normally acquired by performing a broad range of various, complex related activities over a minimum period of 2 years.
** Applicants must include the size of budgets and number of employees they have managed in their letter of application
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field of study.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the design, development and implementation of complex programs
Experience in engaging and/or partnering with Indigenous communities or organizations to advance science program outcomes.
Experience at the executive level in advancing open data or open science.
Experience in representing Canada (chairing, co-chairing working groups, committees and/or heading delegations) in international organizations or fora.
Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)

Knowledge of the priorities of the Government of Canada and how they relate to the science functions of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Knowledge of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s policies and priorities with respect to the oceans and the federal government’s domestic and international agenda for managing the oceans.
Knowledge of fisheries and ocean sciences and related scientific disciplines.
