In the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) of Indigenous Services Canada, we strive to provide access to quality health services, improve health outcomes, and support greater control of the health system by First Nations and Inuit.

As a Program Manager with First Nations and Inuit Health Branch in Alberta Region, you will be exposed to a fast-paced environment with a diverse array of challenges, learning opportunities, experiences, projects, cultures and personalities. We are searching for collaborative and strategic individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic and energetic environment, with a strong focus on quality client service. We are currently looking to staff positions that will be primarily involved in the planning, development, delivery and management of administrative and federal government policies, programs, services or other activities directed to the public. By joining our team, you will have opportunity to provide direct support to health services and community based programming. You will build and support strong working relationships with First Nations and Inuit communities, families, and individuals, with a focus on improving health outcomes and reducing health risks. Our office is located in Canada Place at 9700 Jasper Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta. Our workplace is in close proximity to Churchill Square, the river valley and many restaurants. It has several bus and LRT stops close by, as well as parking lots in the vicinity which makes it easy to get to and from work.

    The Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) identified many issues impacting Indigenous Peoples’ health. These documents are not provided, but can be found on the internet. In 500 words or less, tell us how these documents would guide your work with First Nations peoples in Alberta.

    There are times when even the most dedicated and efficient employee will unexpectedly encounter personal issues that will pull us away from our work responsibilities. Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position, such as Social Sciences, Health Administration.
• Master’s Degree in a field related to the position (Public Health, Leadership, Social Sciences, etc).

• Experience working with community-based organisations involved in the delivery of health and/or social programs.

• Experience working with health or social or education programs or services available to Indigenous peoples.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
In alignment with the First Nations Inuit Health Branch Aboriginal Persons Employment Program and in support of increasing Aboriginal representation in areas having the most impact on program delivery and health outcomes of FNIHB’s target population, selection may be limited to candidates self-identifying as belonging to Aboriginal peoples. Aboriginal candidates will be required to complete the Affirmation of Aboriginal Affiliation Form (AAAF) prior to hiring.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness and ability to work overtime or extended hours.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively to Indigenous communities on a regular basis, including flying in small aircraft to remote locations and/or lengthy vehicle travel. Some occasional national travel may also be required.
Note: On occasion, travel may require being away from home for more than a few days a week.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
