As a Project Engineer, you will work with a team of 10, in the Portfolio Management section of the Real Property, Safety and Security Branch where we encourage individual development, embrace an inclusive environment, and reward innovative excellence.

You will work closely with contractors, clients and other government departments and in the procurement of various construction projects. You will work on in-house design and scope of work preparation for construction, reconstruction and renovation of buildings (laboratories, offices, hatcheries, lighthouses and Search and Rescue Stations), roads, wharfs and various other structures.

You will work at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO), located on the shores of the Bedford Basin in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. BIO is easily accessible for those who commute from either side of the bridge and beyond, and is also serviced by Metro Transit’s route #51. BIO offers many workplace wellness initiatives such as aerobics, Zumba, yoga, Aikido, Circuit/HIIT, croquet, table tennis, the BIO community garden, walking trails and is next to Shannon Park's Canada 150 Trail that offers spectacular views of Halifax Harbour in both directions!

Intent of the process

The immediate need is for one Project Engineer. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions of various tenures.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, geological engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

• Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team and multiple-project environment.

• *Significant experience delivering construction projects.

• *Significant experience providing engineering services including planning and managing various phases of construction projects, with varying degrees of complexity and magnitude, such as highways, bridges, wharves, breakwaters, buildings, and/or fit-up.

*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth acquired from full time performance of these duties for approximately two years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE:

• **Substantial experience in building and marine facilities management including aspects such as scheduling, design, estimating, monitoring and cost control of repair, maintenance, construction and renovation projects.

• **Substantial experience in environmental assessments.

• **Substantial experience in the establishment and management of partnerships and relationships with various stakeholders, partners (e.g. municipal, provincial and federal organizations) or Indigenous communities.

• **Substantial experience in project cost estimating.

• Experience providing engineering services on Federal Government construction projects.

**Substantial experience is defined as the depth and breadth normally acquired from a minimum of one year of experience.
