Work environment

Are you a hands-on individual with a mechanical mindset who enjoys working in the great outdoors? Would you like to contribute to the success of a world class Sockeye fishery? Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Salmonid Enhancement Program (SEP), has an exciting and unique opportunity to join the team as a Maintenance Superintendent at either Fulton River Spawning Channel or Pinkut Creek Spawning Channel. Both of these facilities are located near the shores of Babine Lake and produce millions of Sockeye for the Skeena River watershed. These positions are part of a dedicated Salmonid Enhancement Program that operates 23 hatchery facilities and spawning channels aimed to supplement wild stocks and sustain British Columbia fisheries.

Those who are offered the job should have a passion for the outdoors as much of the work is in the field. These locations are staffed with few individuals, so the ability to work in relative autonomy on a regular basis is essential. Maintenance Superintendents will have the option of living in government provided residences during scheduled shifts.

Duties involve the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment including electrical/plumbing infrastructure, pumps, vehicles and electronic monitoring systems. In addition, the role will also involve the design and implementation of new technology and infrastructure to ensure continuing safe and successful program delivery.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures in Burns Lake and Granisle.
