Key duties may include:
Provides input to the Chief Cook in planning the ship's cyclical, formal and special occasion menus.
Modifies recipes to suit the dietary and special needs of passengers and crew.
Assists in preparing and cooking all food, planning and organizing its operation, assisting in storing of food and maintenance of the galley and its equipment.
Ensures a high standard of food safety and sanitation throughout the galley.
Participates in shipboard emergency and safety drills, firefighting, abandoning ship, man overboard, damage control and other operations such as rescue.
Provides all support necessary to ensure CCG meets its mandate.

Valid Transport Canada Ships’ Cook Certification OR Provincial Standard (Red Seal).

Valid Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Basic Safety Certificate.
Valid Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Survival Craft Certificate.
Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program - RPP.
Willingness to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
Must be willing and able to be deployed.
Must be willing and able to perform Overtime work as required, often on short notice.
Must be willing and able to work shiftwork.
Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42 consecutive days.
Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, or by sea.
Candidates who are hired must be willing and able to travel from their residence to home port at their own expense.
