Duties

Under the direction of the Manager of Technical Services and under the supervision of the Senior Building Systems Specialist, support the facility HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems. Responsible for the execution and completion of unscheduled maintenance, client requests, projects and preventative maintenance tasks, thereby ensuring the continuous service of the building HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems as they pertain to the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health complex (CSCHAH). Install, retrofit and alter new and restored building HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems components as they pertain to the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health complex (CSCHAH). Assist on projects related to the building HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems. Provide data for input into the maintenance management system pertaining to the building HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration and related building systems.

Valid Manitoba 5th Class Power Engineer's Certificate or Certification in a Related Trade, (i.e. Millwright, Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, Refrigeration, Autoclave… etc.) or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems in Institutional/Industrial Facilities, Hospitals or Laboratories.

Knowledge of operation & maintenance for large buildings and laboratories including HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and other building systems.

Ability to understand technical criteria and specifications.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration and related building systems in High Containment Laboratories (Containment Level 3 and 4).
Experience in welding.
Experience in machine tool operation.
Experience in fabrication.
Experience in mechanical repair.
Experience in the supervision and inspection of contracted work.

Degree equivalency

Knowledge of laboratory containment systems, operations and practices.
Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
Knowledge of the use of specialized testing and monitoring equipment.
Knowledge of quality assurance programs.

Ability to use specialized instrumentation and test equipment.
Ability to respond to emergency situations.
