Work environment

Commissioning & Engineering services – electrical section delivered all types of building infrastructure related projects worldwide. Using our public sector knowledge, we provide technically and commercially-effective solutions that fulfil GAC’s needs, as well as allowing for growth and future flexibility in changing technologies.
Commissioning & Engineering services – electrical section provides both up front Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in electrical engineering from the onset at the Request For Proposal (RFP) document to Quality Assurance (QA) review of builder contractual document with overview of the Commissioning process. We work in close cooperation with exterior consultant to create innovative, practical and buildable designs. Our services in electrical engineering cover the entire chain of services from survey of new potential site to QA of construction documents focusing on maximizing building function and occupant comfort for power distribution, lighting and lighting control to fire protection to on-site supervision. We help make buildings safe, sustainable, efficient, healthy and habitable for both Local and Canadian GAC employees.
As an integral part of the construction supply chain, we work with architects, contractors and other consultants to confirm that the proposed systems will be cost effective, sustainable and work with the building’s infrastructure.
We focus on the details, ensuring that each system meets the required codes, fits with the architect’s vision and works with the building’s other systems.
We deliver specialist services in the areas of:

- Electrical Service and Distribution (high and low voltage).
- Emergency/Standby Power.
- Equipment Connections.
- Outlets and Branch Circuiting.
- Lighting and Lighting Controls.
- Grounding/Lightning Protection.
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
- Fire Alarm.
- Renewable Energy Technologies.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff (1) one position on an indeterminate basis. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions in the International Platform Branch in Global Affairs Canada.

Education EG-06 & EG-07:

Post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized college OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience as an electrical designer.

Occupational Certification EG-06 & EG-07:

Candidate shall also be recognized has a qualified person to work on electrical equipment as define in the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Part VIII - Electrical safety. The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada.

Degree equivalency

Experience EG-06 Electrical Systems Specialist:

Approximately 5 years of experience in the construction supervision or commissioning of electrical systems related to buildings (such as: primary and secondary distribution systems, emergency power systems, lighting & lighting control) and Life Safety Systems.

Approximately 5 years of experience in design or design review for electrical systems (such as: electrical distribution systems, emergency generator, uninterruptable power systems (UPS)) and Life Safety Systems.

Experience EG-07 Senior Electrical Systems Specialist:

Approximately 10 years of experience in the construction supervision and commissioning of electrical systems related to buildings (such as: primary and secondary distribution systems, emergency power systems, lighting & lighting control) and Life Safety Systems.

Approximately 10 years of experience in design or design review for electrical systems (such as: electrical distribution systems, emergency generator, uninterruptable power systems (UPS)) and Life Safety Systems.

Experience in analyzing requirements and providing advice and recommendations (written and oral) on technical matters to various audiences such as clients and management.

Experience managing staff.

Asset Qualifications EG-06 / EG-07:

Master electrician license or equivalent.

Degree equivalency

Experience conducting quality assurance review and commissioning of electrical and life safety systems.

Experience in projects outside of Canada.
