Duties

As an IT professional, the main duties are to, but not limited to, providing support in the design, analysis, research and development, testing, upgrading, maintenance and troubleshooting of components of IT applications as well as participation in integrating systems for clients.

Statistics Canada's CS Recruitment and Development Program (CSRDP) offers the prospect of a challenging and rewarding career. As a recruit, you will participate in a two-year development program during which you can expect at least two project assignments. Your duties, performed on project teams with experienced professionals, could include the design, development and enhancement of software applications.

Intent of the process

Candidates may be considered for 3 different types of employment (with various tenures) within this selection process:

1. CSRDP - CS-01 leading to CS-02

CS-01 leading to CS-02 Indeterminate (permanent) positions within Statistics Canada’s CS Recruitment and Development Program

- Candidates appointed to a CS-01 positions within Statistics Canada’s CS Recruitment and Development Program may, upon successful completion of the program, be appointed to an indeterminate (permanent) CS-02 position.

- To be considered for these positions, candidates must demonstrate in their application that they meet the essential education and experience listed for the CS-01 positions

2. CS-01 determinate (temporary) or indeterminate (permanent) positions within Statistics Canada

- To be considered for these positions, candidates must demonstrate in their application that they meet the essential education and experience listed for the CS-01 positions.

3. CS-02 indeterminate (permanent) or determinate (temporary) positions within Statistics Canada

- Candidates wishing to be considered for a CS-02 indeterminate (permanent) or determinate (temporary) position must demonstrate that their recent experience can be considered as significant IT experience (depth and complexity). Please refer to the definition of “significant” when completing your application.

A pool of partially assessed qualified candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions within Statistics Canada with various locations, various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential and bilingual profiles) and various security requirements. These positions may be staffed on an indeterminate (permanent) or determinate (temporary) basis.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed from a *recognized college, CEGEP or university by December 31st 2019 or an acceptable **combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates must have an acceptable number of ***courses (normally 10 one-term courses/ approximately 30 credits) in IM/IT at the level of a recognized post-secondary institution.

*A recognized institution is a public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

**Definition of “an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience”:
A candidate who does not meet the minimum education must have two years of *recent IT related experience for each year of post-secondary studies in IM/IT that the candidate does not have. (Example – as a high school graduate with no post-secondary education, the candidate must have a total of four (4) years *recent experience performing a broad range of IT activities.)

*** The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

EXPERIENCE:

CS-01 and CSRDP - CS-01 leading to CS-02:

EXP1A - *Recent experience in computer programming.

EXP1B - *Recent completion of practical IT assignments.

Experience can usually be demonstrated through working in an IT related activity such as volunteer work, student employment or scholastic activity or achievement. CS-02:

EXP2- *Significant and **recent experience in computer programming.

*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with full-time performance of duties for a minimum of two (2) or more years.
