A Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff two positions on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. *Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.
• Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Experience providing services to internal and external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• Successful completion of secondary school (high school) education.

Degree equivalency

• Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, handling petty cash funds, verifying supplier invoices, preparing invoices.
• Experience in manipulating data in an electronic database.
• Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
• Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving or destroying data.
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) security clearance - NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
