***On July 19, 2016, following a thorough review of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) pilot duties, the Treasury Board approved a new occupational group and pay scale for RCMP Air Services Branch pilot positions, referred to as the Law Enforcement Support Group, Pilot sub-group (LES-PT). This change impacts current and future pilots who will be called upon to perform police officer duties. Under this new occupational group, aspiring pilots will be required to successfully complete the Air Services Special Constable Member Training in order to meet the position requirements (total of 7-8 weeks training held at Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan). Pilot positions will be filled in the fall of 2019. Therefore, our next course training date is scheduled for fall 2019 in Regina. Training costs will be the responsibility of the RCMP. Successful completion of this training is one of the job requirements. Should a candidate be unsuccessful, their employment will be terminated in accordance with Sec. 9.4.(1) of the RCMP Act. Successful applicants will be sworn peace officers, required to carry a firearm and be subject to use of force policies in the performance of their duties.***

Duties

The employee is responsible for:
• providing support for a variety of airborne law enforcement operational activities, such as, but not limited to; flying aircraft for reconnaissance/ surveillance, integrated cross-border law enforcement operations, tracking criminals, rescuing and evacuating injured persons; and

• assisting with prisoner and deportation escorts, detention of prisoners before or after flights, and transportation of exhibits and other hazardous materials in accordance with the Transport Canada issued Equivalency Certificate.

• Fixed wing pilots must possess: A valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot's License (ATPL) or a Commercial Pilot’s license, with a group 1 or 3 Instrument Flight Rating.
• An unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate.

Licenses/Certificates for a Rotary Wing Pilot:
• Rotary wing pilots must possess: A valid ATPL or Commercial Pilot`s License
• An unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate.

Experience (applies to fixed wing and rotary wing pilots):
• Must have a minimum of 3000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.
Note: Only selected candidates must provide a photocopy of the last three pages of their pilot`s logbook.

Special Requirements (applies to fixed wing and rotary wing pilots):
• The candidate must write on his/her application that he/she is willing and able to:
a) relocate anywhere in Canada,
b) spend long hours in travel status,
c) as Pilot in Command, accept all responsibility for decisions respecting the safety of aircraft and passengers in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - This factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is responsible for the security clearance process.

RCMP medical requirement:
This factor is not used at the pre-selection stage. In addition to an unrestricted Category I Transport Canada medical validation certificate, the candidate must meet the minimal health standards as assessed by RCMP Health Services. This includes a full medical, laboratory test(s), psychological examinations and vision and hearing standards.

Visual acuity:
Visual acuity must be at least 6/18 (20/60) in each eye OR 6/12 (20/40) in one eye and at least 6/30 (20/100) in the other eye.

Minimum hearing standards:
• Hearing loss no greater than 30 dB in the better ear in the 500 to 3000 Hz range; and
• Hearing loss no greater than 30 dB in the worst ear in the range of 500-2900 Hz.


These factors will be used when the candidate is successful in the recruiting process. Aspiring pilots will be required to successfully complete the standard training, as listed below, in order to meet the position requirements:
• Must successfully complete the Air Services Special Constable Member Training.
• Must successfully complete the line indoctrination as indicated in the Air Services Fixed Wing Operations Manual (FWOM) or the Rotary Wing Operations Manual (RWOM).
• Must successfully complete the Air Services Safety Management Training.
• Must successfully complete any additional required and/or recurrent training and qualifications as indicated in the Air Services FWOM/ RWOM, the Canadian Aviation Regulations and RCMP policy.
