The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB enjoys a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
This process is designed to fill, on an indeterminate basis, a position in Gatineau (QC) or Calgary (AB). On the other hand, a pool of partially assessed candidates will be created and could be used to staff identical or similar positions located in different regions including the National Capital Region with different durations, profiles and /or language requirements and security levels.

Your résumé.
Education:
- A recognized university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Occupational certification:
- Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position (some positions may require eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada without regard for the field of specialization).
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil, gas or petro-chemical industry.
- Experience in pipeline or related facility design, construction, operation, maintenance or reliability assessment.
Various language requirements
Bilingual BBB/BBB or English Essential

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment (regulations, standards and industry practices) pertaining to the construction, operation, inspection and maintenance of oil and gas pipeline systems.
- Knowledge of the theories and principles of the design of pipelines and related facilities.
- Knowledge of pipeline operation practices.
Abilities and Skills:
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues related to pipeline design, construction, operations, and maintenance.
- Ability to identify safety deficiencies following a transportation accident and to formulate corresponding corrective actions.
- Ability to plan and effectively manage work in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing*.
*A Public Service Commission standardized written communication proficiency test and/or other written exams may be used to assess this ability.

Other Conditions of Employment:
- Meet the Occupational Health Assessment (Periodic III).
- Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
- Be able and agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
- Be able and agree to respond to occurrences and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours as well as on statutory holidays.
- Be able and agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
- Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.
- Willingness to undergo TSB mandatory training.
