The International Platform Branch within Global Affairs Canada governs and delivers resources, infrastructure, and common services enabling the delivery of the Government of Canada’s programs in 179 missions located in 106 countries. The Project Delivery, Professional and Technical Services Bureau is responsible for the delivery of major capital projects, operation and maintenance services for a real property portfolio comprised of over 1 million square metres of office and residential space, representing over 2,400 property holdings, including many properties of high value and historic significance.
The Engineering and Commissioning Services environmental role is to:
- provide operational support to Missions on a variety of operational environmental issues;
- provide environmental support for the delivery of major capital projects, including designated substance surveys, environmental screenings and assessments;
- manage the delivery of the following programs:
- Environmental Site Investigations including contaminated sites management;
- Drinking Water Management, including Drinking Water Risk Assessments;
- Indoor Air Quality;
- Asbestos Management.
A fully or partially qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future term and indeterminate vacancies as well as to fill identical or similar positions at Global Affairs Canada with tenures that may vary according to the positions being staffed (ex. indeterminate, specified period, acting) which may have various language requirements.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in environmental engineering, or some other engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in three or more of the following environmental aspects of real property management: drinking water, indoor air quality, fuel tank management, environmental site investigations, and sustainable buildings;
- Experience in managing an environmental program including contract and financial management;
- Experience in the interpretation of environmental policies, or guidelines as they relate to federal real property management;
- Experience as an environmental subject matter expert on a multi-disciplinary project team.
Asset Qualifications:
Certification:
Certification as a professional engineer in Canada.
Experience:
- Experience in environmental aspects of real property management including: hazardous materials, and contaminated site remediation;
- Experience in the environmental management of real property, construction and operations outside of North America;
- Experience in project management related to major capital construction projects.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of environmental legislation, policies and guidelines related to environmental aspects of federal real property management;
- Knowledge of environmental standards and methodologies for collecting and interpreting analytical data related to site investigations and contaminated sites to identify problems and issues;
- Knowledge of the risk assessment process, methods and technologies used to evaluate, and mitigate potential risks to human health and the natural environment;
- Knowledge of trends and developments in environmental management of real property.
