Duties

Position title: Support Technician

• Provide first level technical support to RCMP employees and External Partners who access RCMP hosted policing applications for any IT software, hardware or networking related issues.

• Ensure the integrity, stability, and availability of IT services by maintaining, monitoring, implementing, and supporting all systems and processes provided and supported by IT.

• Troubleshoot and resolve problems by investigating, analyzing, and collecting information.

The Central Help Desk provides technical support for a wide variety of projects, supporting RCMP police officers as well as, internal and external detachment users at the provincial, federal and international level.

The Central Help Desk (CHD) offers a 24/7 single point of contact for IT issues for all RCMP employees and select external partners.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Notification regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Should a Public Service (PS) employee be found qualified and selected for appointment, notification regarding the PS appointment will be posted accordingly on www.jobs.gc.ca.

Education:
Successful completion of two (2) years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post- secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re- assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
►Experience providing technical support in the maintenance of IT infrastructure components.
►Experience in troubleshooting technical issues to address client’s requirements.
►Experience in gathering information and documentation to address client’s difficulties.
►Experience producing system documentation, reports and correspondence.
