Duties

Regional expertise and support of maintenance management and work safety in the planning, operation and maintenance of physical sites in a region of Correctional Services Canada, including management and oversight of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), occupational health and safety programs and procurement tools for Quebec region.

Regional Maintenance Specialist develops standards, methods and maintenance management protocols to be applied on a regional level, for maintenance activities at all sites including institutions, Parole offices, Community Correctional Centres (CCC) and Regional Headquarters (RHQ).

Work environment

The Technical Services, Quebec Region, of Correctional Service Canada is a stimulating and dynamic environment mission is to ensure the operation, compliance and sustainability of a real estate portfolio of more than $ 8 billion dollars in an operational environment . We are responsible for institutions and penitentiary clusters as well as parole offices and community correctional centers located throughout Quebec. The facilities we manage are diverse such as buildings and structures, building mechanics systems, electrical distribution networks, infrastructures, generators, oil tanks, thermal power stations, water treatment and purification plants, roads, fences and barriers, and automobile fleets to name only those. Depending on the location of your position, you may be required to work in our regional office or in one of our local teams in an institution.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be created following this process, and will be
used to staff similar positions for indeterminate appointments, term appointments, acting
appointments, casual, deployments, assignment and secondment in the Quebec region.

Education

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience

Recent and significant* experience providing facilities maintenance services in an institutional setting (example: prison, hospital, school, etc).

Experience providing advice and guidance to management to facilitate planning, managing and leading facilities management projects.

Minimum 1 year experience planning, managing and leading facilities maintenance projects and providing advice to management

*Recent and significant is defined as 3 years in the last 5 years.

Knowledge

Knowledge of project management in the Government of Canada (https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/information-technology-project-management/project-management.html).

Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations.

Knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety regulations .

Abilities

Ability to identify and develop recommendations to resolve issues.

Ability to provide effective advice and recommendations to management.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation with a college diploma in engineering technology or another discipline
related to the position.

Graduation with a degree in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering or any other field related to the position.

Applicable Provincial certification required to perform the duties of the position.

A certificate of qualification in a trade associated with facilities maintenance.

Degree equivalency

Experience

Experience developing and implementing preventative maintenance program.

Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System.

Experience providing management services in a cost-recovery environment.

Experience providing fleet management services.

Experience interpreting architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings, work orders, specifications and manufacturers data.
