As a Project Technologist:
You will provide project management, technical and design support to ensure the reliability, readiness, cost-effectiveness, and safe operation of CCG, DFO and other government department (OGD) vessel assets in the Region in support of federal government programs.
You will provide support to in-service engineering activities; coordinate project management activities including technical information, design, plan, procure, test planning, and technical investigations in support of the ITS Marine Engineering section.
You will develop technical documentation in support of engineering design, procurement, installation, maintenance and disposal of fleet assets, including technical specifications, statements of work, standards, procedures, feasibility studies, installation specifications and engineering documents.
You will provide technical advice to the Engineering section’s Senior Marine Engineer, other groups within Integrated Technical Services (ITS) and clients within CCG and DFO both regionally and nationally.
You will provide detailed site location requirements in support of marine engineering systems such as propulsion, hull, auxiliary/hotel, deck machinery and electrical/control.
You will perform site surveys and appraise ship’s core machinery in support of determining vessel condition and conducts the predictive and preventative maintenance activities in support of the Asset Management Services.
You will verify compliance of all as-fitted DFO/CCG vessel drawings to Transport Canada Marine Safety and Classification Society regulations and listings of vessel as-fitted equipment that are reviewed by senior officers and critical equipment and systems reviewed to support the vessels in accordance with the ISM code are identified.
You will monitor the efficiency of electrical, electronic and mechanical components and systems; analyzes machinery data; inventories and drawings to assist with the preparation of specifications for the acquisition or overhaul of major equipment or components.
The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) owns and operates the federal government's civilian fleet, and provides key maritime services to Canadians. As a Special Operating Agency of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the CCG helps DFO meet its responsibility to ensure safe and accessible waterways for Canadians. The CCG also plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable use and development of Canada's oceans and waterways.
The intent is to staff vacant indeterminate positions in Dartmouth, NS and St. John’s, NL . A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis within Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard in other regions across Canada.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in a marine environment*.
*Marine Environment is defined as either shipboard operations or an industry directly involved with the maintenance, overhaul or repair of cargo, Navy or passenger vessels.
• Experience in writing technical documents, such as Statements of work, Technical Statements of requirement etc..
• Experience in analyzing issues, assessing impacts, and developing options or solutions.
• At least one year of experience in using AutoCAD 2010 or later to generate detailed Structural Mechanical or Electrical 2D drawings.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
ASSET EDUCATION:
• A degree in Naval Architecture, Nautical Sciences - Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONs:
• Certification as Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute
• Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
• Experience managing new vessel construction or vessel refits.
• Experience in producing ship structural drawings.
• Experience in producing drawings for electrical systems, including block diagrams and, schematics.
• Experience in producing drawings for mechanical systems, including block diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience in analyzing ship stability, including the relative positions of CoB, CoG, Metacentre in various conditions.
• Experience with GHS software or equivalent for intact and damage analysis stability analyses.
• Experience with hand calculations for simple structural analyses (bending moments, UDL’s, point loads etc.) to analyze local stress and be able to calculate shear area of ship sections.
• Experience in the preparation of weight estimates with a focus on ship stability.
• Experience in using TC, SOLAS and Class regulations.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability and willingness to work extended hours as required.
Reliability Status security clearance
• Must wear and maintain CSA approved safety footwear and maintain job-related personal safety equipment.
• Required to travel using various means of transportation such as ships, planes, and helicopters, sometimes on short notice.
• Required to conduct site visits to vessels, shipyards, and other industrial sites, involving walking over rough terrain and/or climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, or other structures, maintaining balance on a moving vessel, and bending in awkward positions and working in confined spaces.
