1. No written exam nor interview will be administered in this selection process. The selection committee will use the screening questionnaire (for both the essentials and assets) to make a selection decision. The nominee(s) will provide scientific and/or technical support within the Government of Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This process aims at creating a pool of candidates to staff various determinate (few weeks to several months) positions among the Maurice-Lamontagne Institute's research teams. Under the supervision of project leaders, the nominee(s) will work in the field, aboard research or fishing vessels, or in a laboratory, including the Institute's seawater facilities. Tasks may include sampling with various fishing devices, building and maintaining experimental seawater systems, using specialized scientific equipment, or controlling water quality and working with live organisms. The nominee(s) will collect and enter experimental data on the appropriate support.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established in order to staff similar positions at Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biological sciences, wildlife management, a field of natural sciences relevant to the duties of the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience in providing technical support and collecting data as part of biological scientific projects in the field or laboratory.
Experience in using a personal computer and common softwares such as MS Word and Excel (or equivalent).
Experience in taxonomic identification of marine organisms:
-Plankton (phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish eggs and larvae)
-Algae
-Invertebrates
-Fishes
-Marine mammals
Experience in sampling or collecting live organisms in the field.
Experience with usual techniques for morphometric and other biological measurements, particularly for fishes and invertebrates in the field or laboratory.
Experience in using and calibrating specialized scientific equipment.
Experience in transportation, use and care of live research organisms, particularly fishes and invertebrates.
Experience in collecting and managing data.
Experience in using scientific software, for example: spreadsheets, databases, statistical analyses, graphing, GIS, etc.
Experience in building and maintaining laboratory saltwater systems.
Experience in SCUBA diving.
