Work environment

The position to be staffed is located in a regional office. Please note the position's incumbent will be expected to work independently and could be alone in the office on a regular basis.

Intent of the process

The position will initially be staffed on a permanent basis.

A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates will be established and could be used to staff this position with various tenures. The pool of candidates could be used to fill similar positions within 100 km radius of Edmonton, Alberta in organizations where appointments are made under the authority of the PSC and the PSEA with the approval of the delegated manager in consultation with Human Resources.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to university graduation or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES

Significant* experience in providing advice and information to government institutions, public administrations or community organizations.

Significant* experience in dealing with various public institutions concerned with social, political and language issues.

Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships.

Experience in preparing and delivering presentations.

*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of approximately five (5) years, as well as the type (range, scope and complexity) of work handled related to the experience criteria. Clear and specific examples should be provided by candidates in their application.

KNOWLEDGES:

Knowledge of the Official Languages Act and the language provisions found in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Knowledge of the roles and mandate of the Commissioner of Official Languages.
Knowledge of the official language minority communities in Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories.
Knowledge of the Canadian socio-economic, political and linguistic environment in general and of Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories in particular.

Please note that candidates (including employees of the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and that travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs. Minimal reimbursement of relocation expenses could be offered if the selected candidate moves as the result of an employment offer.

You must clearly indicate, in writing and giving concrete examples, how you meet each essential qualification in the Education and Experience category; failure to do so may result in your application being rejected. Therefore, please answer the questions in the application carefully.
