Intent of the process

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions to the IS-03 group and level at Natural Resources Canada various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), whose language requirement must be bilingual. A bilingual position (imperative) in editing-writing (French), the language profile(s) (PBB/PPC) will be essential for the job and will be evaluated at a later date. Security requirements must be at the “Secret” level as indicated in the conditions of employment, and the terms and conditions of employment and workplaces may vary.

A covering letter in 2,000 words (maximum) "NOTE: You must provide concrete and detailed examples to clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience requirements listed in the essential qualifications and other qualifications section. The screening board cannot make any assumptions about your experience. It is not sufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current duties. One effective approach would be to use the wording of each experience criterion as a heading and then write one or two paragraphs demonstrating that you have the required experience and ensure that clear and accurate details are provided. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

- Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in the field related to the position, such as translation, communications, literature or journalism, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience from the related field.

Degree equivalency

- Extensive* experience in comparing and editing of texts translated from English to French for a range of materials including Web texts, reports and other documents.
- Experience in performing all levels of editing for administrative documents, Web content and/or communication products.
- Experience in providing linguistic, terminological and stylistic advice with regards to editing or writing of written products.

*Extensive experience is defined as at least two years (full time) of experience in the last five years.

Information on language requirements

- Knowledge of the French language: vocabulary, grammar, spelling and writing.
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices of editing and linguistic revision.

- Ability to edit clearly and accurately documents translated from English to French or written in French.
- Ability to write and adapt the content to various in-house and external audiences, depending on the target.
- Ability to translate short texts from English to French.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

- Experience in supervising employees.
- Experience in performing finance-related tasks such as initiating and managing service-delivery contracts and tracking expenditures.

- Knowledge of best practices for writing Government of Canada’s Web pages.

- Willingness and able to work overtime (evenings and weekends) when required.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance - This factor is not used at the preselection stage. Security clearance is the responsibility of the hiring department.
