The EG-04 Structural Designer is the structural representative on the design team in Engineering. This team member offers structural advice and code interpretations to RP Ops Shop Staff and Contracts Staff and other Engineering Team staff. The EG-04 Structure designer is also the Project Manager for assigned construction projects from Consultant Design to Project Implementation.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
- A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
- An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EG classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in structural design, drafting, estimating and specification writing utilizing AutoCAD software
- Experience using a personal computer utilizing MS Office Suite software applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc

KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of structural engineering methods and practices used in the design and maintenance of municipal systems
- Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations associated with engineering design function
ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform structural design work, determine scopes of work, prepare bills of material and/or specifications
PERSONAL SUITABILITIES:
- Overall personal suitability to effectively perform the duties of the position including effective interpersonal skills, flexibility and sense of responsibility
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Available for call-in and overtime when required
- Able to work in confined spaces if required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Nova Scotia driver's license
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Reliability Status security clearance
- Able to wear suitable safety equipment as dictated
by the job site, including safety boots, hard hat and
safety vest.
Candidates must meet and maintain the above conditions of employment throughout their employment.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the National Master Specification (NMS) format, DND format and NMS Edit specification software for editing specifications
- Knowledge of DND Administrative procedures for staffing of a project
ABILITIES:
- Ability to prepare specifications in NMS format using NMS Edit software
- Ability to communicate both orally and in written format
- Ability to participate or lead multi-disciplinary design team involving project coordination, project planning and working to a fixed budget
