The intent of this process is to staff one PC 02 position located at Natural Resources Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the PC-02 group and level with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, with acceptable specialization in geology, physics, biology or other science relevant to the position.
• Experience preparing for and participating in marine geoscience research and field activities.
• Experience using Geographic Information System (GIS) software to process and analyse scientific data.

• Knowledge of seafloor mapping technology and the processing and interpretation of associated data.
• Knowledge of methods to analyse and interpret marine sediment samples.
• Ability to assess, integrate and analyse multiple data sets.
• Ability to apply methods, and techniques to conduct seabed geological research.
• Ability to plan, prepare and coordinate logistics for field operations.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

• Experience in the acquisition, processing and visualization of seabed geospatial data such as geophysical data, multibeam bathymetry, bathymetric LIDAR.
• Experience collecting marine geoscience samples from the seabed.
• Ability to program using scientific software such as MatLab or Python.

• Willing and able to undertake field work, at sea or in remote land locations for up to 3 months a year.
• Occupational Health Assessment (Medical) required before appointment and to be maintained throughout employment (Department will arrange).
