Work environment

The work is being performed in a police detachment environment. This results in occasional exposure to intoxicated, mentally unstable, hostile and potentially violent individuals to victims of crime or relatives of accident victims who may be distraught. The work is performed in an open office environment. It involves tight deadlines, time pressures, frequent interruptions, conflicting priorities and multiple demands from staff, callers and visitors. This position requires shiftwork.

Intent of the process

Intent to fill one indeterminate (permanent) PART-TIME position (18.75 hrs/week). A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent positions.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*
*Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, filing, or processing mail.

Experience using word processing AND spreadsheet software.

Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Successful completion of secondary school education.

Degree equivalency

Experience manipulating data in an electronic database.

Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement, judicial or quasi-judicial environment.

Experience providing financial support services. (Services may include, but are not limited to, verifying and correcting financial claims, controlling and monitoring petty cash, preparing financial status reports, etc.)

Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS)

Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving or destroying data.

Experience transcribing from digital media.

Assessment for this process will take place in Selkirk, Manitoba or Winnipeg, Manitoba. The cost to attend the assessment will be the candidate's responsibility. Housing in this location may be difficult to obtain. It is the candidate’s responsibility to research this location.

External candidates may be eligible for the initial appointment relocation entitlement of up to $5000 if they are not currently a federal public service employee.

Appointment decisions may be based on one or more of the following criteria: -Matching of the individual's experience or qualifications to the strengths and weaknesses of the work team;
-Matching of the individual's experience or qualifications to the specific duties of the position being staffed;
-Depth, breadth, type of work-specific experience;
-Level/degree of one or more competencies/qualifications.

Other sources of information (such as performance agreements, work samples, board member knowledge, etc.) may be used to assess the criteria identified on the Statement of Merit Criteria.

All communication relating to this process, including e-mail correspondence and responses to screening questions, may be used in the assessment of qualifications, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies, similar positions, for term, permanent and acting, at full or part time hours within the area of selection.

The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status. The candidate must not have a Criminal Record. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.
