The Canadian Center for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction is located in Dorval. Consequently, the candidate need to be mobile for Dorval. It will not be possible to work remotely.

. With more than 20 different prediction systems, we produce atmospheric, chemical (air quality), oceanic, hydrometric, and hydrodynamic forecast, which are used by our internal meteorologists as well as by external users, other federal departments, and the public, via our different data portals.
. We serve and protect Canadians, 24-7, year round, by providing numerical weather and environmental predictions together with real-time observations to assist in better planning and decision-making ( for example, for transport, public safety, health, farming, etc.)

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree (bachelor), from a recognized post-secondary institution, in Computer Science, Computer applications, Mathematics and Computer science or applications, or in Engineering (with acceptable specialization in software engineering or in computer science).
EXPERIENCE
• Recent and significant * experience in applying and implementing the principles of software engineering in a Unix/Linux environment;
• Recent and significant * experience in programming in a Unix/Linux environment;
• Recent and significant * experience programming in at least one of the following interpreted programming languages: Python, Tcl/Tk, Ksh, or Bash;
• Recent and significant * experience in at least one of the following high level programming languages: C, C++, or Fortran.

• Graduation with a master, from a recognized post-secondary institution, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics and Computer science or another science specialty relevant to the position to be staffed;
• Graduation with a degree (bachelor), from a recognized post-secondary institution in Engineering (with acceptable specialization in software engineering or in computer science).
EXPERIENCE
. Experience working in an operational environment with 24-7 support;
. Experience participating in a multidisciplinary scientific project;
. Experience developing databases and with the SQL language;
. Experience in project management;
. Experience working within a high performance computing environment(supercomputing);
. Experience in the management and manipulation of georeferenced data;
. Experience using OpenGL;
. Experience developing online mapping tools;
. Experience using GPUs for high performance computing purposes;
. Experience in parallel programming (OpenMP, MPI, OpenACC);
. Experience in systems interconnection / Integration.

Qualifications may be assessed by a variety of tools and methods. Therefore, the assessment of a portfolio, a written exam, an interview, reference checks or other assessment methods may be used in this process. Candidates are expected to make a reasonable effort to make themselves available for assessments as scheduled. Pass marks will be established for each qualification. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. A cut-off score may be used and top-down approach may be used at any step if there is a sufficient number of candidates to meet immediate and anticipated staffing needs.
Indeterminate and determinate employees at the group and level or equivalent MAY be considered for Deployment, assignment or secondment. A preference MAY be given to deployments, assignments or secondments.
Qualified persons must meet each essential qualifications to be appointed to the position. However, a person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
