The RCMP is seeking applicants who are detail oriented, multitaskers and dedicated people that want to help serve the public and protect our police officers.
9-1-1 Police Dispatchers provide services that support both the public and police officers by collecting information and coordinating assistance. 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers are the “voice” on the phone when you call for help. They also help support our police officers to carry out their work in communities across British Columbia.

What does the work involve?
• Every Call is important. 9-1-1 Police Call-Takers answer calls for help from the public. They are the first person the public speaks to when they call the police for help.
• Coordination is key. 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers are the lifeline for police officers. They dispatch police officers to the scene, monitor the police officer’s status to keep them safe and coordinate additional police resources when needed.
• 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers make a difference. 9-1-1 Police Dispatchers assist the public when they are facing a crisis and protect our front line police officers.

Training Program
During our eight-month training program, we provide you with the skills to become a 9-1-1 Police Dispatcher. When you participate in the operator training program, you are hired as an employee and are offered full-time salary for the duration of the training program. The training consists of theory, classroom and on-the job training.
Work Schedule
The 9-1-1 Police Dispatch Centres operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. You will be required to work irregular hours (mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays). Shift work is required and valued.
Conditions of Employment
• Security clearance which includes a criminal background check.
• Medical clearance which includes audio, psychological and medical standards for the positon.

Testing/interviews will be conducted at locations of the employer's choice and will require candidates to travel to the test/interview location. Virtual attendance such as teleconference or Skype will not be offered.
TRAVEL RELATED TO THE SELECTION PROCESS - Candidates including employees of the Public Service will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business. Travel expenses to attend the career presentation, Criticall exam, and interviews is the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed.
TRAVEL RELATED TO THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS (JOB OFFER) - Candidates that are selected to participate in the Telecommunications Operator Trainee Program are responsible for all expenses incurred to relocate to the work location.
