The positions we are looking to fill are:
- Carpenters (GL-WOW-10)
- Electricians/Lamp Technicians/Mechanics (GL-EIM-11)
- Riggers (GL-PRW-10)
- Welder/Fabricator (GL-MAN-10)
- Painters (GL-PCF-08) - Victoria location only
- General Labourer/Operators (GL-MAN-08)
This is an inventory process, and will be used to staff positions within the Canadian Coast Guard in various locations throughout British Columbia, Selkirk (Manitoba) and Hay River (Northwest Territories). A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions, on a temporary or permanent basis.

This is what you need to have to be considered for possible job opportunities:
STREAM 1
For Rigger positions (GL PWR 10) you need to have:
• Current and valid Rope Access or Fall Arrest Certification
• SPRAT or IRATA Level 1,
• Minimum 1 years’ experience working on guyed or self-supporting communication towers and other antenna supporting structures.
• Experience in the installation, removal, and maintenance of antennas and transmission line systems respective to land based communications infrastructure.
STREAM 2
For General Labourer/Operator positions including crane, boat drivers and truck driver positons (GL-MAN-08) you need to have:
• Certification in one of the following: Class Three with Air Endorsement, Mobile Crane Certification or successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard Ridged Hull Inflatable Operators Training (RHIOT)
• Experience in general/semi-skilled construction and maintenance of equipment
STREAM 3
For Welder/Fabricator Positions (GL-MAN-10) you need to have:
• Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial journeyman trade certification in Welding (or must hold or have held certifications 47.1 and or 47.2 within the last 3 years)
• Experience in welding with the following processes;
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Steel
- Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) Steel
- Gas metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Steel and Aluminium
- Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Steel and Aluminium
- Oxy-acetylene burning equipment.
STREAM 4
For Electricians Positions (GL-EIM-11) you need to have:
• Possession of a Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Electrical Trades Certification
For Mechanics Positions (GL-EIM-11) you need to have:
• Possession of a Valid Inter-Provincial Journeyman Trades Certification in one of the following: Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Pipe Fitter, Millwright or Machinist.
For Lamp Technician Positions (GL-EIM-11) you need to have:
• Possession of Red Seal Certification in electrical or experience maintaining, repairing and installing low voltage lighting systems.
• Experience in various electrical trade activities required for the installation, maintenance, or repair of electrical equipment and systems.
• Experience working at heights
STREAM 5
For Carpenter positions (GL-WOW-10) you need to have:
• Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial journeyman trade certification in carpentry
• Experience with working at height
• Experience in refurbishment and construction of buildings and structures.
• Experience in building concrete forms, and placing and finishing concrete.
• Experience in the installation of building exterior protective materials.
STREAM 6
For Painter Positions (GL-PCF-08) you need to have:
• Possession of a valid Inter-Provincial journeyman trade certification in Painting/Sandblasting
• Experience in grit blasting and coating application equipment while using air supply apparatus.
• Experience in the use of conventional and airless paint application equipment, rollers and brushes, to achieve specific wet and dry film thickness of various coatings.

Forklift Operator’s Certification
Experience in field or remote site operations.
Experience in the construction, modification, maintenance, repair, or life cycle management of CCG Aids to Navigation, associated facilities or assets.
Experience in working with helicopters.
Experience with working at height
Experience working in the Pacific marine environment and basic seamanship

Operational Requirements:
Domestic travel using various means of transportation such as ships, boats, planes, and helicopters, often on short notice
Ability and willingness to conduct site visits, involving walking over rough terrain and/or climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, or other structures
Work overtime as required
Reliability Status security clearance
• Valid Health Canada Medical
• Willing and able to travel for up to 3 week periods of time to remote sites via trucks, boats and aircraft
• Willing and able to work weekends, overtime and travel on short notice
• Willing and able to access remote sites over rugged terrain and work outdoors in extremes of environmental conditions on land and at sea
• Valid driver’s licence
• Ability to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m
