Working as part of a NRCan team, and with government departments and other stakeholders, the candidate will be responsible for conducting research using qualitative and quantitative methods to help resolve issues related to phytosanitary concerns on the import and export of forest commodities caused by insects. The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and conducting scientific research in support of policy decisions.
A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada ACROSS CANADA with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC), various security requirements (reliability or secret).

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a doctoral degree (Ph.D), with specialization in entomology.
Productivity/Recognition:
Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:
• Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
• Operational research and scientific analysis;
• Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.
Experience in conducting entomological research.
Experience in use of genomic tools required for entomological research.
Experience in insect identification using morphological methods.
Experience in experimental design and the use of statistical methods.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge of phytosanitary and risk management principles as they relate to entomology, forests and trade.
Knowledge of insect taxa important to trade of forest commodities.
Knowledge of entomological sampling techniques.
Knowledge of insect biology in forest ecosystems.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing in English.
Ability to communicate effectively orally in English.
Ability to analyze information and prepare technical papers.
Effective interpersonal relationships including developing external collaborative networks.

Experience with the use biological collections for research and analysis.
Experience in forestry related entomological research.
