Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one CS 02 position located at Natural Resources Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed
• NOTE:
- Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
- It is a recognized educational institution (e.g., community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
- At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager

Degree equivalency

Recent * experience in administration, support and maintenance of software and hardware for one or more technology platforms.
Recent * experience in operating system management for Linux and Windows workstations in a networked environment.
Recent * experience in object-oriented programming and scripting languages (such as C++, C#, and Python) for system administration and data processing.
Experience in monitoring and troubleshooting backup and recovery systems.


*Recent is defined as experience that has been acquired within the last five (5) years.

Knowledge of writing code and scripts for system administration or data processing using C++, C#, or python
Knowledge of networking such as TCP/IP and Ethernet.
Knowledge of management and operation of RAID systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft distributed file systems.

Ability to troubleshoot technical IT issues.
Ability to work as a team member providing IT support to research teams.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Post-secondary degree in geophysics, physics, geology, earth science or engineering.

Degree equivalency

Experience in manipulating scientific data using programming languages.
Experience in scientific software development in a Linux environment.

Knowledge of seismic data acquisition and data processing.

Willing and able to work overtime as required and to adopt flexible work hours as per operational requirements.
Ability to lift 10 kg.
