The Bureau offers challenging careers. We seek individuals who can work in multi-disciplinary teams and are comfortable conducting investigations pursuant to the Competition Act. The Bureau’s Competition Law Officers will pool their expertise in performing research and analysis under the Competition Act, preparing requests for information, conducting interviews with market participants, assessing the competitive impact of proposed mergers or business conduct, writing reports and making recommendations to senior management. The intent of this selection process is to staff two (2) indeterminate positions in Gatineau, Quebec, and one (1) indeterminate position in Toronto, Ontario. A pool of partially qualified candidates or entirely qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various language requirements (Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, English Essential or English or French Essential), various security requirements (Reliability or Secret) and various tenures (indeterminate or term) within the Competition Bureau.

EDUCATION:
A degree in law from a recognized university and eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or in the Order of Notaries in the Province Quebec.

EXPERIENCE:
E1: Within the last three (3) years, a minimum of either:
(i) 10 months’ experience working as an articling student or lawyer in a private law firm or in the public sector; OR
(ii) 12 months’ experience as a law clerk to a judge of a federal or provincial court.
E2: Completed at least one articling rotation or clerkship which included a focus on competition law, corporate law or commercial litigation.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the Competition Act and Competition Bureau guidelines.
Reliability Status security clearance
The incumbent may be frequently required to travel, work overtime and work a flexible schedule.
