Duties

Irrigation of plant material based on research goals.
Cleaning and disinfecting greenhouse compartments, growth chambers and incubators.
Applying bio-control products at the direction of the IPM assistant.
Mixing growing media at the direction of the Operations assistant.
Cleaning, sorting, and storing various greenhouse supplies and materials.
Programming and maintaining growth chambers and incubators.
Operating and maintaining powered machines such as soil mixers and power washers.
Performing routine maintenance tasks on various pieces of greenhouse equipment.
Maintaining accurate and current records of greenhouse processes and inventory

Intent of the process

Immediate need: 1 full-time permanent position

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.

A secondary school diploma.

Degree equivalency

Experience working with crops or working in a greenhouse.
Experience working in an agricultural research setting.
Experience operating or adjusting small powered equipment or common hand tools.
Experience with record keeping using electronic/manual methods.
Experience using email, word processing and spreadsheet software.

Knowledge of daily plant care and maintenance.
Knowledge of basic mathematics and simple calculations.
Knowledge of biological pest control methods in greenhouses.

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Plant science or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience working in research greenhouses.
Experience working with oilseeds.

Placement of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) employees affected by work force adjustment.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Ability and willingness to work with cleaning products and disinfectants.
Ability and willingness to work with hand and power tools.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work including moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (up to 20kg).
Ability and willingness to work in a laboratory, greenhouse, and/or field environments.
Known allergies must be controlled through use of protective mask and/or medication and must not impinge on tasks to be performed.
Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
