The Facilities Manager position is responsible for maintaining an office and laboratory complex as well as other building and equipment infrastructure which may be located at one or more sites.
The Facilities Manager is responsible for the inspection/maintenance program for facility operations, building systems and equipment; emergency and preventative maintenance procedures; life cycle management of building systems and equipment; the provision of facility management services including developing and managing large construction contracts, preparing requests for proposals, preparing specifications, and procuring supplies and equipment; analyzes historical costs and recommends changes for cost reduction initiatives; determines priorities for capital projects in consultation with science community and departmental engineers; supervises a facilities team composed of multiple skilled trades.
The position is under the responsibility of the Integrated Services Manager. In addition to building maintenance, the responsibilities of the integrated services team include security, procurement, materiel management, and certain aspects of finance and human resources. As part of his/her responsibilities, the Facilities Manager will oversee the performance and/or operation of a person or group. The facilities team ensures the continued and un-interrupted (24/7, 365 days/year) operation of facilities infrastructure at an Agriculture and Agri-Food (AAFC) Research and Development Centre (RDC). The facilities infrastructure supports the work of several research teams lead by scientists. The work of the facilities team will support a client base of approximately 100 or more persons.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Trade certification in one or more of the following Fields: Electrical, HVAC or Power Engineering.
Experience supervising and managing staff, which includes but not limited to: training, conducting appraisals, setting priorities, and managing work schedules.
Significant* experience in facility management.
Significant* experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of facilities infrastructure and related equipment, including HVAC systems.
Significant* experience in the use of building controls software.
Experience using word processing software, such as Word, and database software, such as Excel, Internet search tools.
Experience managing construction and renovation projects including on-site supervision of contractors.
*For the purpose of this process, significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of three (3) years or more.
Certifications associated with facilities management and/or maintenance (ie: Millwright certification).
Experience managing construction and renovation projects exceeding $100,000.00 including on-site supervision of contractors.
Experience in the management and maintenance of laboratory facilities.
