Occupational Certification: Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.

Experience in data entry using spreadsheet, word processing, or database software.

Recent* and Significant** experience providing Community Health or Primary Care nursing services.

Recent* is defined as within the last five years

Significant** is defined as at least two years experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task in a wide variety of situations in one or more of the following areas:
1. Community Health (Public Health and Home and Community Care)
2. Primary Care
3. Urgent or Emergency Care
4. Acute or Intensive Care

Recent* and Significant***experience providing advice/guidance to management on patient safety procedures.

Recent* is defined as within the last five years

Significant*** is defined as a minimum of two years experience with the candidate performing complex activities related to this task in a wide variety of situations.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution*

*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience in working with First Nations and/or in First Nations communities

Experience in community development and/or capacity building

Experience in leading and implementing change management within a health services organization

Experience in educating and mentoring staff on patient safety and risk management concepts

Experience in discharge planning

Knowledge of current patient safety issues, initiatives and procedures

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to complete certification and ongoing certification relevant to the position, including Canadian Patient Safety Officer Course, Becoming a Patient Safety Trainer.

Conditions of employment

• Valid driver's licence or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver's license

• Medical Clearance:

o Agree to undertake a Category 3 pre-placement periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=12561&section=HTML).

o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive (http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/index.php?hl=1&lang=eng&merge=3&did=4&vid=12&pv=1)

o For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=12561&section=HTML).

• Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas

• Willingness and ability to work in a rigorous, diverse and often demanding work environment

• May be required to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required

• Willingness and ability to perform on call duties, work after hours, and on weekends as required

• Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position

• Current valid registration as a Registered Nurse and a member in good standing in the province where the position is located.
