Work environment

The work is being performed in a police detachment environment. This results in occasional exposure to intoxicated, mentally unstable, hostile and potentially violent individuals to victims of crime or relatives of accident victims who may be distraught. The work is performed in an open office environment. It involves tight deadlines, time pressures, frequent interruptions, conflicting priorities and multiple demands from staff, callers and visitors.

Intent to fill 1 indeterminate part-time position (18.75 HRS per week). A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent positions.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or employer-approved alternatives

Degree equivalency

Experience providing clerical or administrative support

Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software

Experience in providing assistance to managers, clients or the public.

Experience with electronic and hard copy files.

Experience working with financial information or financial documents (such as invoices, accounts payable, reconciling credit statements, or petty cash).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience using PROS (Police Reporting and Occurrence System)

Experience using CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre)

When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential education, and the essential and asset experience qualifications. It is recommended that you describe the experience examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the Assessment Board can clearly understand. The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status. The candidate must not have a Criminal Record. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.

Assessment for this process will take place in The Pas, Manitoba. The cost to attend the assessment will be the candidate's responsibility. If you are currently employed with the Federal Public Service, please let us know your current group and level as well as your tenure and the Department you are working for. Housing in this location may be difficult to obtain. It is the candidate’s responsibility to research this location.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

All communication relating to this process, including e-mail correspondence may be used in the assessment of qualifications.

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies, similar positions, for term, permanent and acting, at full or part time hours within the area of selection.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.
