Work environment

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB enjoys a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.

The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially assessed candidates. Similar positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures, language profiles and/or requirements and security levels.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A degree from a recognized university in English, French, translation, communications, or a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Significant* professional experience editing materials in English and in French aimed at specialist or general readers

Experience editing scientific and/or technical materials in English and in French

Significant* experience in comparative editing

Experience researching terminology

Experience providing writing and editing advice to authors and/or managers

Experience using Web-based tools and common desktop applications, including MS Word

*Significant experience refers to an acceptable combination of breadth, depth, complexity of tasks that can normally be acquired in 3 years of work in the field.

Bilingual - Imperative (PPC/PPC)

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of professional editing standards and best practices

Knowledge of writing tools and references, including Government of Canada standards and tools

Knowledge of the mandate of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada

ABILITIES :

Ability to copyedit written materials, in English and French, for the general public

Ability to perform comparative editing

Ability to manage multiple priorities

Ability to communicate effectively orally

Experience in translation

Experience editing or writing in one or more of the following fields:
• media
• administration
• transport/technology/sciences

Experience writing or editing for the Web.
