Duties

Working as part of an interdisciplinary team to establish, promote and maintain a treatment / supportive environment;

Delivering and supervising group and individual skills training sessions and following-up as part of a mental health treatment model;

Ongoing and consistent interactions with offenders managed under the Intensive Intervention Strategy or as part of ambulatory services which promote continuity of care in which every interaction is viewed as an opportunity to assess or change behaviour;

Working with women offenders in a federal institution.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates will be established and may be used in the future to staff positions of various tenures (permanent and temporary) with various language requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of at least two years of post-secondary education with an acceptable specialization in one of the following areas: social work; behavioural science technology; social services work; mental health; addictions; psycho education or in a field related to the duties of the position

We may also accept a combination of education, training and/or experience related to the duties of the position

Degree equivalency

Experience intervening with women in crisis, in a social services setting, or in a correctional environment and/or experience with correctional operations

Experience in the provision of behavioural counselling

Experience in the use of a variety of automated systems and software programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, electronic mail systems

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in social work; sociology; psychology; education; or any other field related to the duties of the position

Degree equivalency

Experience working with women with mental health needs

Experience working with Indigenous women or women from other ethnocultural groups

Experience in providing interventions to women in crisis

Experience in offering treatment to clients using the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Experience in the application of Functional Behaviour Analysis (FBA) or Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA)

Experience working in a psychiatric or mental health facility

Experience working with women offenders in a correctional environment (institution or community)

Experience working with individuals who are at risk for self-injurious or suicidal behavior

Knowledge of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Creating Choices report for federally sentenced women and CSC’s mental health strategy

Knowledge of mental health disorders including personality disorders, crisis intervention and/or conflict resolution principles

Knowledge of the principles of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)

Ability to use motivational interviewing techniques and counsel adults

Ability to gather information, develop, and implement activities for skills training and personal development

Ability to provide interventions and generate options under stressful conditions

Ability to work in a women-centred environment, including respecting their diverse needs

Ability to communicate effectively orally

Ability to communicate effectively in writing

Demonstrating integrity and respect

Thinking things through

Working effectively with others

Showing initiative and being action-oriented
