Intent of the process

There is an immediate need to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Wainwright, Alberta. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of a valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate as Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) (Duty Equipment Mechanic – Off-road, Truck and Transport Mechanic, Transport Trainer Mechanic or any other equivalency recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board (such as Heavy Duty Equipment Red Seal, Certificate of Military Achievement Qualification Level 5 Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician (HET).

OR

Possession of a valid Interprovincial Journeyman Proficiency Certificate or valid Provincial Certificate in the applicable province of employment as an Automotive Service or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.

OR

Possession of a Certificate in Automotive or Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics from a recognized institution or industry and significant experience in Automotive or Diesel/Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics.

OR

An acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience (such as Military Vehicle Technician Qualification Level 5 certificate).

EXPERIENCE

Experience working as a mechanic in the repair and maintenance of commercial diesel vehicles and/or heavy-duty equipment and/or vehicles.

ABILITY
A1 Ability to communicate effectively orally.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Possession of a valid vehicle airbrakes operator’s qualification.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience using SAP programs, such as DRMIS

• Experience working with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel or CAF diesel and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles, either as a Public Service employee or as a DND contractor.

Position may require one or more of the following:

KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of heavy-duty equipment, hydraulic systems and components.

• Knowledge of the use and care of vehicle maintenance equipment.

Position may require one or more of the following:

ABILITY

• Able to locate, read, interpret, and/or apply technical information, i.e. service manuals, drawings, and related publications.
• Able to use and interpret mechanical and/or electrical test equipment.
• Able to perform maintenance as described on qualifications/certifications.
• Able to detect and troubleshoot problems.
• Able to organize work to meet deadlines.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to operate the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Operational Requirements

Possession of, or, ability to obtain/retain a DND 404.

Willing and able to work overtime as pre-authorized

Willing and able to work standby or call-back, may be called in for emergency repairs.

Willing and able to work from heights.

Willing and able to conduct recovery duty.

Willing and able to train military OJT technicians.

Conditions of employment

Other Conditions of Employment:

Possession of a valid (unrestricted and non-graduated) Canadian provincial or territorial driver's license such as a Class 5 License in Alberta.
Must wear CSA approved safety footwear at all times and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
