The TSB was created as an independent agency due to the importance of impartiality in the conduct of investigations. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council. The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety. The TSB enjoys a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.
The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.
This process is designed to fill one position in Edmonton(Alberta) on an indeterminate basis with an English essential language profile. A pool of partially assessed candidates will be created. This pool might be used to fill similar positions in different regions with various tenures, language profiles and/or requirements and security levels.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. EDUCATION:
Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Locomotive engineer, conductor (transportation), or track maintenance foreman (engineering services).
Note: Occupational certification need not be valid at the time of application.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5 years of experience in train operations (transportation) or railway track and structures (engineering services).

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of train operations, or railway track and structures.
Knowledge of the regulatory and accident investigation framework, e.g., Railway Safety Act, Canadian Rail Operating Rules, Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act and Regulations.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.

EDUCATION:
University degree from a recognized institution in a field related to the position.
College certification from a recognized institution in a field related to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience conducting analysis of railway operations related occurrences or experience conducting analysis of railway track, subgrade or bridge related occurrences.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Technical report writing skills.

Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.
Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.
Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.
Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.
Willingness to be part of a standby system, on a rotational basis.
Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
