Intent of the process

An inventory of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions on an indeterminate, term, casual or acting basis.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. Failing to do so could result in your application being rejected.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Possession of valid Marine Emergency Duties certificate (STCW Basic Safety [A1 & B2])

*Possession of valid Marine Emergency Duties Certificate - Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats [B1]
*Required for periods of employment in excess of 6 months

Professional Cook's Certificate

Valid Marine Basic first aid certificate or higher.

Experience in Hospitality/Hotel Services or providing professional housekeeping or janitorial services or services with the food industry or experience as a steward on an ocean going vessel.

Experience working as a cook.

Experience on seagoing vessels.

Experience as a Steward on a Coast Guard vessel.

Experience in taking inventories and ordering supplies.

Organizational Needs

Membership in one of the designated Employment Equity groups.

Operational Requirements

Requirement to work overtime when required.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

. Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel
. Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time (including Arctic Waters) and in adverse weather conditions
. Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform and Personal Protective Equipment to Coast Guard standards
. Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards
. Adherence to Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
. Willingness to be deployed within the Atlantic Region
. Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions).
. For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period
. Must be willing and able to travel by air, land or by sea

Other information

The retest period for re-assessment within the context of this selection process is 6 months from the date of elimination at either the interview or reference stage of the process. If you submit an application to this selection process before the retest period has elapsed your application will not be considered. If you are eliminated at the screening stage, you are encouraged to resubmit your application once you meet the essential qualifications identified for screening.
