HOW TO APPLY

--WHAT IS A CANDIDATE DOCUMENT NUMBER (CDN)--
A CDN number is a Candidate document number allotted to a candidate by Transport Canada Marine Safety (TCMS). All your training and qualification records are maintained in our TCMS computer database (ACES) under your CDN number.

HOW DO YOU OBTAIN A CDN NUMBER?
• An applicant can complete and print the application form available on TCMS Website at the following link: http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Corp-Serv-Gen/5/Forms-Formulaires/English.aspx .
• The completed application, together with two (2) documents as proof of identity, must be submitted in person to the closest TCMS office.

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to create an inventory of candidates that will be used to staff RELIEF positions on a term (temporary) basis for the Canadian Coast Guard in the Central and Arctic Region - Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Sector.

The hiring level will be determined based on the depth and breadth of the successful candidate's qualifications, as well as their assessment results.

Indeterminate (permanent) employment may be available once candidates are hired and have obtained Coast Guard Experience.

An indeterminate appointment is an appointment to a permanent position- a permanent job
A term appointment is employment for a specified period of time with a defined end date- a temporary job

The first draw from the inventory will occur on December 18, 2017. Any subsequent draw from the inventory will occur annually or as operationally required.

Reliability

Valid Marine Basic First Aid Certificate

Valid Marine Advanced First Aid Certificate

Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED) with respect to Basic Safety-STCW

Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Proficiency in Advanced Firefighting- STCW

Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats-STCW

Ship's Crew Cook Certification or Provincial Standard (Red Seal).

Successful completion of Vocational diploma (DEP) in pastry

Vocational diploma (DEP) in cooking

Experience in the hospitality industry, including housekeeping duties and serving tables.

Experience in the hospitality industry as a cook or chef

Experience as a parts clerk or keeping inventories/stores or in the food supply industry

84 days experience or higher on a commercial or government vessel

Food Safety Handling Training

Valid Driver’s License or mobility associated with a driver’s license.
Accept additional responsibilities associated with the performance of duties applicable to this position.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Security: Reliability or Secret (as applicable to appointment)

Hold a valid passport
Valid Health Canada Medical (however, a valid Transport Canada Seafarer’s medical may be accepted on initial appointment for a period of up to a maximum of 6 months or until a Health Canada Medical is completed)
Valid Occupational Certification required for the position.
Agree to be deployed anywhere in Canada.
Agree to be assigned anywhere in Canada.
Willingness and ability to go to sea for various lengths of time.
Willingness and ability to travel by land, air and water.
Willingness and ability to work overtime.
Willingness and ability to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved Safety Footwear (black in colour), and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program - RPP.
This pool may be used to staff CCG vessels in the MSET (Marine Security Enforcement Teams) program. In order to be considered for the MSET program, candidates must pass a Law Enforcement Records and Credit Check (LERCC) conducted by the RCMP.

Travel expenses will not be reimbursed for employees who choose not to relocate (if entitled under the NJC Relocation Directive) to the city where they are appointed when travel to that city is required.
