At the time of appointment, you are required to have the Occupational Certificate to work in Ontario as a Dietitian and it must be maintained throughout the duration of the employment. Following the appointment, the process of becoming a member of Dietitians of Canada will be completed throughout the appointment. Finally, please note that the annual renewal fees pertaining to the provincial dietetic regulatory organization as well as the Dietitians of Canada will be covered by the employer.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff two (2) of the above-mentioned positions with a language profile of English Essential. Please note that an additional assessment (oral & written) may be used in order to determine if the level of English required for these two (2) positions are met.

This process may also be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates which could be used to staff similar positions with various security levels, tenures, language requirements and linguistic profiles (English Essential, Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC).

Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent may be considered for deployment first.

Please note that the Defence Team members in the National Capital Region (NCR) have begun to relocate to the new National Defence Headquarters - Carling Campus in Ottawa’s west end. This organization, strategic Joint Staff, is scheduled to move in the Year of 2019. Education:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nutrition, dietetics or home economics.

Note:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Occupational Certification: Current member of a provincial dietetic regulatory organization and a current member or eligible to be a member of Dietitians of Canada.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

E1: A minimum of 2 *recent years’ experience working full-time as a dietitian.
E2: Experience using the Nutritional Care Process Model.
E3: Experience performing data analysis related to systems (such as analysing nutritional content of standards and menus using Nutritional assessment software).
E4: Experience working in each of the following computer programs: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Internet.

*Recent is defined as within the last 5 years.

K1: Knowledge of appropriate nutritional interventions based on scientific evidence

AE1: Experience working for a federal government department in a nutritional support program
AE2: Experience working with military personnel and understanding of military training and identification of nutrition related complications (hydration, stress, weight loss, sleep disturbances, etc.)
AE3: Minimum 3 years’ *recent experience working full-time as a Dietitian
AE4: Minimum 1500 hours experience as a Dietitian in the field of sports nutrition

Knowledge

AK1: Knowledge of special nutrient needs of the military population
AK2: Knowledge of special nutritional needs of athletes and the impact on performance and health

Ability:

AA1: Ability to display understanding of Physical performance measures (e.g. VO2, body composition etc.)
