Work environment

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard are responsible for policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters; for the conservation and sustainable utilization of Canada's fisheries resources in marine and inland waters; for leading and facilitating federal policies and programs on oceans; and for safe, effective and environmentally sound marine services responsive to the needs of Canadians in a global economy.
The accounting hub provides professional advice, operational services and information in the areas of accounting operations. It processes financial transactions of the department such as accounts payable and receivable. The accounting hub is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Intent of the process

ANTICIPATORY. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and will be used to staff similar positions with various language requirements (English Essential and Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC) within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. These positions may be staffed on a permanent or temporary basis (term, acting, assignment, secondment).

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Significant* experience in a financial environment, which must include all of the following sub-elements:

. Accounting in a range of various subject areas and organizational structures; such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, audit or other relevant area.
. Interpreting financial policies and procedures and providing advice to internal and /or external clients.
. Using an integrated financial systems, for example Oracle or SAP.
. Using Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) in a business environment.

*Significant experience is defined as being one in which the person's primary responsibilities include these duties and refers to the depth and breadth as well as complexity of tasks that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out the functions for normally three (3) years in the last five (5) years.

EDUCATION
In possession of a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience using Kofax/Markview software.
Experience in account verification related activities.
Experience performing financial reconciliation.
Experience providing client support for accounting operations.
Experience working in Federal Government accounting operations.
