Intent of the process

ANTICIPATORY STAFFING: This is an inventory process. Pools of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions on an indeterminate, term , deployment, assignment, secondment or acting basis. Applications will be forwarded to the hiring manager on an as needed basis.

EXPERIENCE

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the occupational certification and experience factors listed in the ESSENTIAL AND ASSET qualifications. Candidates must indicate that they hold a valid certificate and use each experience factor as a header with one or two paragraphs for each factor describing their experience using concrete examples. Candidates must give a detailed account (with substantial depth and breadth) of their experience as it relates to the factor being assessed. This applies for both the ESSENTIAL and ASSET Qualifications. Lack of examples or details may result in your application being rejected as the Assessment Board will have insufficient information to determine if the requirement is met.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Valid 3rd Class Certificate of Competency or higher.

EXPERIENCE

Experience as an Engineer on a Coast Guard Class A vessel or higher invoved in one or more of the following operations:
• Search and Rescue
• Conservation and Protection

Experience as an engineer during refit.

Experience on Fishing Vessels.

Experience as a Marine Engineer 750 kW or higher

Valid Marine Advanced First Aid

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
Membership in one of the designated Employee Equity Groups

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to report to vessel at short notice
• Ability to satisfy the requirements of the vessel’s competency profile
• Willingness to work overtime when required

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

• Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel
• Valid Certificate of Competency
• Willingness to go to sea for prolonged periods of time (including Arctic Waters) and in adverse weather conditions
• Willingness to be deployed
• Willingness to properly wear and maintain a uniform
• Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Coast Guard standards
• Willingness to travel by air, land and sea
• Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards
• Adherence to Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
• For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
• Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions)

Other information

The retest period for re-assessment within the context of this selection process is 6 months from the date of elimination at either the interview or reference stage of the process. If you submit an application to this selection process before the retest period has elapsed your application will not be considered. If you are eliminated at the screening stage, you are encouraged to resubmit your application once you meet the essential qualifications identified for screening.

Salary for SO-MAO-03 - $33.02 to $36.99 per hour.
Salary for SO-MAO-05 - $37.28 to $41.59 per hour.
