Intent of the process

Two year term positions with possibility of extension.

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions within Elections Canada with various tenures (indeterminate, specified periods) and with various linguistic profiles.

Essential qualifications

Education:

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

NOTA: Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Recent* and significant** experience working in an IT infrastructure and/or Operations environment.

Recent* and significant** experience in IT technical investigations, analysis and documentation of technical issues and/or client’s needs.

Recent* experience in providing recommendations and/or support to various stakeholders concerning the resolution of IT issues.

Recent* experience participating in developing IT standards, processes or guidelines.

*Recent is defined as an experience having been acquired within the last five (5) years.

**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full-time performance of duties for a period of approximately two (2) years.

Knowledge of IM/IT solutions deployment and release management processes.

Asset Qualifications:

Education:

College Diploma of 3 years or more in an IM/IT discipline.

Possession of one or more relevant professional certification that applies to an IM/IT position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Recent* experience in applying Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes and best practices (e.g. Change management, Availability management, Capacity management, etc.).

Recent* experience maintaining and updating documentation.

Recent* experience in writing technical specifications and documentation.

Recent* experience in IT Asset Management lifecycles, processes, systems and tools.

Recent* experience in a service Desk environment.

Recent* experience analyzing and documenting business requirements.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Knowledge of recent trends in IM/IT in the area of mobile devices and workplace technology.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, ex: Outlook, Word, Excel.

Knowledge of IT Asset Life Cycle processes.

Knowledge of basic IT Security principles.
