Marine engineers have the awesome responsibility of operating, monitoring, and maintaining a ship's engines, electrical systems, and machinery to ensure the comfort and safety of every soul on board a vessel. Marine Engineers are responsible for operating engineering plants with cumulatively 15000+ horsepower, controlling temperatures that can range between 500C to -25C and monitoring turbo chargers that can reach up to 25,000 rpm.

The intent of the process is to create an inventory of candidates that will be used to staff RELIEF positions on a term (temporary) basis for the Canadian Coast Guard in the Central and Arctic Region - Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Sector.
The hiring level will be determined based on the depth and breadth of the successful candidate's qualifications, as well as their assessment results.
Indeterminate (permanent) employment may be available once candidates are hired and have obtained Coast Guard Experience.
An indeterminate appointment is an appointment to a permanent position- a permanent job
A term appointment is employment for a specified period of time with a defined end date- a temporary job
The first draw from the inventory will occur on December 18, 2017. Any subsequent draw from the inventory will occur annually or as operationally required.

Valid Health Canada Medical (however, a valid Transport Canada Seafarer’s medical may be accepted on initial appointment for a period of up to a maximum of 6 months or until a Health Canada Medical is completed)

Willingness and ability to go to sea for various lengths of time.

Willingness and ability to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved Safety Footwear (black in colour), and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program - RPP.
This pool may be used to staff CCG vessels in the MSET (Marine Security Enforcement Teams) program. In order to be considered for the MSET program, candidates must pass a Law Enforcement Records and Credit Check (LERCC) conducted by the RCMP.

Travel expenses will not be reimbursed for employees who choose not to relocate (if entitled under the NJC Relocation Directive) to the city where they are appointed when travel to that city is required.
