Education:
Graduation with an acceptable diploma in Animal Health Technology and/or Veterinary Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education and work experience.
Experience:
E1 Experience providing laboratory animal care services, conducting animal husbandry and performing technical procedures.
E2 Experience conducting quality assessments and coordinating quality assurance activities in an animal facility.
E3 Experience training laboratory animal care staff.
E4 Experience planning, coordinating and scheduling activities on animal use protocols.
Asset Qualifications:
Registered Laboratory Animal Technician from the Canadian Association of Laboratory Animal Science.
Operational Requirements:
Willingness and ability to work overtime on a regular basis and on a short notice.
Willingness and ability to work on call 24/7.
Willingness and ability to work with potentially infectious agents & potentially toxic substances.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
K1 Knowledge of the principles and concepts of laboratory animal science.
K2 Knowledge of quality control procedures and quality management system principles in a laboratory animal facility.
K3 Knowledge of the operation, calibration and maintenance requirements of animal facility equipment.
K4 Knowledge of Standard operating procedures and good laboratory practices related to animal husbandry, sanitation, sterilization, handling of hazardous materials and disposal of biohazard contaminants.
K5 Knowledge of the Canadian Council on Animal Care Policies and Guidelines.
Abilities
A1 Ability to perform technical procedures on laboratory animals following appropriate safety precautions.
A2 Ability to review animal use protocols and ensure compliance with the requirements of the Canadian Council on Animal Care policies and guidelines.
A3 Ability to review and enforce implementation of standard operating procedures related to the laboratory animal science.
A4 Ability to provide training and technical guidance to technical staff on good housekeeping practices and the use of specialized equipment in an animal facility following appropriate safety procedures
A5 Ability to operate automated animal facility equipment, (i.e. cage washers, autoclaves, Reverse Osmosis water systems, etc.)
A6 Ability to work with spreadsheets used in a laboratory animal facility (i.e. Excel)
A7 Ability to communicate effectively orally.
A8 Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
